With many of the top names
out of the competition, the Sevilla based clubs were prominent in the Spanish
cup this week. Baptista got both FC Sevilla's goals from the penalty spot as
his side won at Recreativo, and Oliveira and Edu got their names on the
scoresheet in Betis's victory at modest Mirandés. Edu got two more at
the weekend as well against struggling Mallorca to rocket up back into our
chart.
Leading Pichichi Samuel
Eto'o made up for a penalty miss by scoring Barcelona's winner on Sunday
against Real Sociedad, but Ronaldo kept up with him after getting another for
Real Madrid a couple of hours later. Curiously all three of Madrid's top name
strikers (Ronaldo, Raúl and Owen) were carrying injuries and were listed
as "doubtful" before kick off, but they got a goal apiece as their side
recovered from David Villa's early strike to beat Zaragoza 3-1.
Diego Forlán and
Guayre seem to have gelled at Villarreal, and between them they got three of
their side's four at Levante, Forlán getting a brace for the second week
in a row. Elsewhere Maxi kept Espanyol in the Champions' League spots with his
ninth of the season at Bilbao, and Pandiani got back in the goals for the first
time in five games, albeit that Deportivo were held to a draw by Numancia.

PS. Athletic Bilbao's
goal against Espanyol was awarded by the referee to Yeste rather than to
Etxeberría, and he therefore comes in to our chart this week with seven
in all competitions. |
