Another high scoring weekend
in the league, with 34 goals to follow on from last week's record 36. Bilbao's
Santi Ezquerro is one of the surprises of the season, and he got two more this
week, one in the cup and one in the league, to move up to second in our chart.
He is still three behind Eto'o though, who scored his 16th in the league and
19th in all competitions as Barcelona thrashed Sevilla 0-4. There was a similar
result in San Sebastian, where Villarreal kept up their terrific form with a
convincing win over Real Sociedad. Riquelme got one and Forlán got two
more to take his tally to 13, second only to Eto'o in the league Pichichi race.
Fernando Torres was relieved
to get his name on the scoresheet again for the first time since the first week
of December, albeit that it needed a penalty for him to do so. That is nothing
though compared to Di Vaio, who had not scored in the league since the 3rd of
October before finding the net of Sunday. He comes in to our table this week
together with Mallorca's Luis García, who scored twice against Getafe to
give his side hope of escaping from the relegation spots. (31.01.05)
