What must surely be the
lowest scoring cup semi-finals on record saw the four matches end with only one
goal between them. Valdo's strike in the first leg was enough to give Osasuna
victory over Atlético Madrid after the return match ended goal-less, and
a second 0-0 draw between Athletic Bilbao and Betis meant a penalty shoot out
which the Andalusians won. Hopefully next month's final between Betis and
Osasuna will be more entertaining!
A second half strike from
leading scorer Samuel Eto'o was enough to give Barcelona the point they needed
at Levante to clinch the league title. Eto'o looks like taking the Pichichi
trophy this year, with permission from Baptista, who helped out the Catalans
with a late header against Real Madrid earlier in the evening, and Oliveira,
who moved to within three goals of the Camerooni forward with two (including a
penalty) against a poor Atlético side.
Surprisingly the 36 goals
scored this weekend was the joint highest of the season, only equalled in week
20. The total included three own goals and four penalties, including one for
Riquelme, who took Villarreal up to third spot and condemned Albacete to the
second division, and one for Tamudo, who helped to maintain Espanyol in the
UEFA cup spots as his side drew 2-2 against Valencia. (16.05.05)
