Pichichis

The battle for the league's Pichichi is really on after this weekend's games, with Diego Forlán and Oliveira both closing in on Samuel Eto'o. The Barcelona striker tried his best against Villarreal, but his luck was out even from the penalty spot, and his frustrations grew as his nearest rival Forlán slotted home three for the opposition. Oliveira also scored for a Betis side who could be joining the other two and Real Madrid in the Champions League next season, and it will all boil down to next weekend's games. If either of them does catch Eto'o though, he will be ruing that the Madrid based sports paper Marca (who give the Pichichi award) have deducted a goal from his total, as explained in earlier weeks.

Eto'o's team mates Ronaldinho and Giuly (twice) were on the scoresheet though in an exciting 3-3 draw, Giuly in particular entering our chart for the first time as a result. Pacheco is also back after he scored a brace against Real Sociedad, and with Albacete relegated he will presumably have a lot of offers this summer. Goals as well for Savio and for Maxi, although he didn't know too much about it when a clearance bounced off his leg and in to the net. Maybe Marca will decide it was an own goal? (23.05.05)
