Diego Forlán is La
Liga's Pichichi this season! The Villarreal striker scored two more in his
side's win over Levante to overtake Samuel Eto'o on the last day of the
championship. Eto'o had a goal deducted by the trophy's organizers, the spots
paper Marca, but was still looking safe until Forlán got a hat-trick
against Barcelona themselves last week. The ex Manchester United man's 25
league goals takes him level with Arsenal's Thierry Henry in the race for the
European golden boot, which they will presumably share. Eto'o still wins
Soccer-Spain's award though (cup final permitting), which is based on all club
competitions.
Curiously only two of our
top strikers got their names on the scoresheets this weekend as well as
Forlán, Real Madrid's Ronaldo and Owen both hitting the back of the net
as their side beat Zaragoza 1-3. (30.05.05)
P.S. Oliveira scored again
in the cup final as Betis bet Osasuna 2-1 after extra time, and he pips
Forlán for second place in our chart. (11.06.06) |
