Eto'o hadn't scored a
hat-trick for Barcelona since he joined last year, and he hadn't scored a goal
in the Champions League this season. But all of that changed as Frank
Rijkaard's side hit five against Panathinaikos in the Champions League. it was
in fact a great week for Spanish sides in Europe with five wins out of five,
including a classic 1-0 victory for Betis against the all powerful Chelsea.
Dani, the young man who came off the bench to hit the winner, doesn't score
many goals, but those he does get tend to be important, such as the one which
won his side the cup last season. Elsewhere Robinho got one as Real Madrid won
0-2 at Rosenborg, and Marcos Senna hit the winner for Villarreal against
Benfica. And in the UEFA cup, Kanouté got another two in Sevilla's 3-0
win over Besiktas to take his tally to four in the competition.
Dani and Eto'o were both on
target at the weekend as well, the former stepping into the shoes of Oliveira
(who is likely to be out for a long time with an injury), and the latter
scoring in the first minute at Getafe, and then setting up Giuly later on for
another in a 1-3 win which consolidated their second spot. Arango got his
fourth of the season for Mallorca to take them away from the drop zone, and
Xabi Prieto scored his third penalty for Real Sociedad. It was not enough
though to unseat surprise leaders Osasuna, who curiously don't have anyone in
the top 25 Pichichis. Their goalscorers are well divided, with nine different
names on the scoresheet this season. (07.11.05) |
