Samuel Eto'o is a man in a
hurry. Named as the World's third best player by FIFA this week, the Camerooni
striker doesn't want to repeat last year's experience of being robbed of the
Pichichi title at the last minute. With the Africa cup coming up in January
though he will miss two or three games, and so he is doing his best to build up
a big cushion before that happens. This weekend he got two more, including a
twice taken penalty, to move five clear of his teammate (and World best player)
Ronaldinho, who didn't play against Cádiz as he was nursing a knock. It
looks clear cut already, but then there is still a long way to
go....
Hardly any of Eto'o's
closest rivals managed to score this weekend though, Diego Tristán
getting one (and missing another) from the penalty spot to move up to fourth in
our table, and Riquelme cracking home a free kick to keep in touch. Last year's
Pichichi Diego Forlán is finding it harder going this season, but he did
join Riquelme on the scoresheet to cancel out Riki's spectacular strike against
Getafe and keep Villarreal in the top four. And talking of Diegos, Zaragoza's
Milito is back in the rankings as well after getting one of his side's goals at
Espanyol.
With Giuly getting
Barcelona's first against Cádiz, the leaders now have three players in
our chart. Second placed Osasuna had been conspicuous by their absence though,
at least up until this weekend when Milosevic got his fifth of the season at
Real Madrid to join the Pichichis. The Pamplona based side suffered an early
exit from the UEFA Cup, but Espanyol and Sevilla are still there after
confirming their presence in the last 32 midweek. The only goals then came from
defenders, but the Pichichis were back in the news at the weekend, Tamudo
getting both Espanyol's goals to save a point against Zaragoza, and
Kanouté scoring as Sevilla came back from two down to beat Real
Sociedad. (19.12.05) |
