The Spanish cup this year is
getting stranger by the minute, and this week there was another blow to the
competition when the match between Valencia and Deportivo was suspended shortly
before half time (see white stick section for more on that). David Villa had
scored before the game was abandoned though, and he has a chance to add to his
tally when the rest of the tie is played out next week. Earlier in the evening
Robinho proved that he performs better under a Spanish coach than under a
Brazilian one, and his strike took his side through to the semi-finals. The
young forward got another at the weekend as well against Celta, and seems to be
finding his form at last.
Lots of goals in the delayed
first leg tie between Zaragoza and Barcelona, with all four goalscorers
featuring in our table. Diego Milito and Ewerthon got a couple each for the
hosts, one of Milito's being from the penalty spot, and Larsson and Ronaldinho
(also with a penalty) replied for the Blaugrana. Ewerthon moved up to fourth in
our table after scoring again at the weekend, and he is proving to be one of
the best new signings of the season.
Another new boy
Kanouté was also on target at the weekend as Sevilla moved up to fifth,
and there were two goals each for Espanyol's Tamudo and for Atlético's
Maxi, who is now his side's top scorer ahead of Kezman and Torres. Barcelona's
Giuly was given a start at the weekend in Mallorca ahead of Messi and took his
chance to open the scoring, but Messi came on for the last quarter of an hour
or so and overshadowed him again, scoring twice to take his tally to the season
in all competitions to six. (30.01.06) |
