A low scoring week, starting
with European competitions where the five Spanish sides could only manage two
goals between them. Ronaldinho's and Arruabarrena's strikes against Chelsea and
Rangers saw Barcelona and Villarreal through to the third round of the
Champions League, but Real Madrid couldn't get one goal in 180 minutes of
football against Arsenal, and Sevilla and Betis have some work to do after
firing blanks in the first legs of their fourth round UEFA cup games.
Back to the league, where
the 20 goals scored was the lowest tally in nine weeks. Larsson's fourth in as
many games was not enough to prevent Barcelona from defeat at Osasuna, and the
two sides behind them, Valencia and Real Madrid, cancelled each other out in a
score-less draw. Diego Milito's early strike for Zaragoza was overturned by two
from Getafe's Paunovic, and only a Fernando Torres penalty contributed to a
victory by the any of the other sides in the top half of the table.
Meanwhile Espanyol boosted
their morale for Wednesday night's cup semi-final with a 2-0 win over Celta,
Tamudo starting things off with his first goal in six games following another
injury lay off. And finally Saviola and Nené return to our chart this
weekend after scoring for their respective sides on Sunday. (13.03.06)
