Pichichis

David Villa closed the gap behind Samuel Eto'o to one goal again after scoring from the penalty spot at the weekend, and everything will boil down to the last day (or two in the case of Eto'o). Villa's strike wasn't enough for Valencia to win though, Atlético's Maxi getting the equaliser soon afterwards. Meanwhile Eto'o's team mate Ronaldinho was on target as Barça beat city neighbours Espanyol to leave them struggling near the bottom of the table. Last season's Pichichi Diego Forlán scored twice at the weekend in the Bernabeu, although that too was not enough to give Villarreal a win against a Real Madrid side who were saying good-bye to Zinedine Zidane. The big man didn't let the crowd down though, scoring in his last home match before retirement to the delight of everyone.

Elsewhere Baiano produced a brace in the Anoeta stadium to give Celta the point they needed to ensure a place in Europe next season, and Milosevic gave Osasuna hope of tying up the last place in the Champions League before Racing put their celebrations on hold with two late strikes. Diego Milito left Alavés on the brink of relegation with one of Zaragoza's three goals, and Savio also scored in his last match for the Maños on the day he too took his bow from Spanish football before returning to Brazil to play out the rest of his career at home.
