We're back! La Liga returned
this weekend, and with it our Pichichi chart. With our table based on all club
competitions, the early leaders are usually from teams who played European
qualifiers. However goals were few and far between this pre-season, with
Villarreal and Osasuna getting knocked out of their respective competitions at
the first hurdle, and only Valencia winning through with strikes from the new
front pairing of Morientes and Villa as well as youngster Silva. Barcelona did
put three past neighbours Espanyol in the Spanish supercup, including two from
Deco, but they were then hit for three themselves by an on-form Sevilla.
The Andalusians proved a few
days later that it was not just a flash in the pan, another four against
Levante in the last match of an extended weekend taking them to the top of the
league table. Under 21 striker Kepa got three of them to valid at least a place
in the squad if not in the starting line up, and he tops our ranking ahead of
his team mate Kanouté, who got a goal in each game. Other notable names
got their first chalkmarks on the board though amongst the more than reasonable
tally of 25, including last year's Pichichi Eto'o, Morientes, Fernando Torres
and the Zaragoza pairing of Milito and Ewerthon. (30.08.06) |
