On Saturday we thought that
the race for the Pichichi prize was all over almost before it had begun as last
year's winner Samuel Eto'o produced an inspired performance, scoring two
against Osasuna and making a third for his team-mate Messi. But the following
day Van Nistelrooy staked his claim for this season's title, notching up a
hat-trick and also having a penalty saved in only his second game for Real
Madrid. The challenge is on!
Others shouldn't be ruled
out though, David Villa opening his league account for Valencia and
Kanouté getting his second in the league and his third overall to move
level with his strike partner Kepa. And Diego Milito and Baiano were also on
target for the second game in a row. Elsewhere Cazorla joined in the fun with a
goal against his old club Villarreal, and Renato added to his European Supercup
goal with another against Real Sociedad. (11.09.06) |
