An all Spanish UEFA Cup
final is well on the cards after Espanyol beat Werder Bremen 3-0 on Thursday
night. Pandiani was one of the scorers to take his tally in the competition
this season to eleven, the fourth highest on record. The other semi-final is in
the balance after Osasuna beat defending champions Sevilla 1-0 in the first
leg, although Soldado's headed goal does give the Pamplona based side a slight
edge.
Back to the league, and Van
Nistelrooy moved to within one goal of joint leaders Kanouté and Diego
Milito after getting two for his side in Bilbao. Capello said that the key to
winning the title was the striker, and if he can take the Pichichi prize,
Madrid would be champions. Eto'o's goal for Barcelona against Levante keeps
them at the top of the table though, at least for now. Elsewhere Diego
Forlán hit a brace to sink Nàstic further down into the drop zone
and keep up his side's albeit remote chances of reaching the European spots.
