Getafe's amazing comeback in
the cup took them to the final for the first time in their history. Güiza
scored twice in their 4-0 win over Barcelona to set up a final venue against
Sevilla, who made easy work of Deportivo with strikes from Duda and
Chevantón.
Back down to Earth though
for the Blues at the weekend, where they were trounced 1-4 by city neighbours
Atlético Madrid, Fernando Torres getting two of the goals for the
visitors. "El Niño" was upstaged though by two hat-tricks, one for
Villarreal's Diego Forlán and one for Espanyol's Pandiani, who saw his
side's lead wiped out by four from Real Madrid, including strikes from Van
Nistelrooy and Raúl.
Madrid are now leaders on
head-to-head goal difference over Barcelona, who could only draw 1-1 with Betis
after Ronaldinho's penalty was cancelled out late on. Sevilla and Valencia are
not out of the title race either, Luis Fabiano scoring from the penalty spot as
the former beat Recre, and David Silva on target as the latter got the better
of Zaragoza. Elsewhere Baiano and Portillo were both on the scoresheets despite
defeats for their respective sides, who sink further into the drop zone as a
result. (14.05.07) |
