After what seems like a very
brief lay-off, La Liga is back. As expected, our first chart is dominated by a
Sevilla side who have been involved in all the official pre-season
competitions, Champions League qualifiers, Spanish Super Cup, and next week the
European Super Cup. So far though they have exceeded even their own high
expectations, putting five past Real Madrid in the Santiago Bernabeu, two past
AEK Athens in the CL and four this weekend against Getafe in the league. Last
season's runner up Kanouté is off to a flying start with a hat-trick
against Madrid and one in each of the other competitions, but Luis Fabiano is
not far behind with three, and Renato contributed with a brace in the Super
Cup. Elsewhere Forlán and Agüero have got off to a promising start
(despite their defeat at Real Madrid this weekend), and Ibagaza is the early
leader in the league Pichichi table, the only player to score two on "Day 1".
