Pichichis

A midweek round of league matches as the league calendar is squeezed up to finish in time for Euro 2008. Kanouté stays out in front despite not scoring, but two young Argentinians are already pushing him, Messi scoring two more (his fourth in five days) as Barcelona hammered Zaragoza 4-1, and Agüero scored his fifth as Atlético beat Athletic Bilbao.

Agüero's partnership with Forlán (who scored the other goal) is starting to bear fruit, although they are being challenged by another "dynamic duo", Nihat and Rossi both on target as Villarreal moved to the top of the table (for 24 hours at least) for the first time in their history. The two David's, Silva and Villa, both scored their third of the season for Valencia, and Raúl proved that his confidence has returned by actually taking a penalty, something he has not done for a long time.

Elsewhere Luis García got one of Espanyol's three in their revenge victory over Sevilla (that makes two Luis García's in our chart, and both current Spanish internationals!), and Javi Guerrero got his third in two games to take Recreativo away from the danger zone. (28.09.07)
