Not a great start for
Spanish sides this week in the Champions League, Real Madrid being held to a
0-0 draw at Olympiacos and Valencia also failing to score as they were beaten
0-2 by lowly Rosenborg. Barcelona and Sevilla did better the following day
though with two goal victories over Rangers and Steaua Bucharest, Henry and
Messi getting the goals for the Blaugrana and Renato both for the Andalusians.
Only Villarreal played in the UEFA Cup this week (Atlético and Getafe
had rest days), Cazorla and Nihat scoring in a 1-2 win over the little known
Mlada Boleslav.
On to the league at the
weekend, and Kanouté and Luis Fabiano were on target again for Sevilla.
It didn't help much though as they fell to a 3-2 defeat at Villarreal, Guille
Franco scoring twice for the "Yellow Submarine". Almost half the 26 goals this
weekend came from that match and the game between Real Madrid and Mallorca, in
which Robinho scored twice and set up another for Raúl before Van
Nistelrooy got the winner. Güiza celebrated his call up for Spain though
by putting the visitors ahead, for a short while at least. Elsewhere David
Villa signalled his return from injury with two against Murcia, and another
member of the Spanish squad Tamudo scored an important goal for Espanyol
against Athletic Bilbao. (12.11.07) |
