Luis Fabiano is currently
heading up the European league goalscoring charts after getting both goals
against Valencia on Sunday. The Brazilian striker is level with Cristian
Ronaldo and two ahead of Fernando Torres on 22 "dianas", and with goals in the
top leagues counting double the trio are currently at the top of the rankings.
In Spain nobody else is even close, although Diego Forlán is up to
second in our charts on an all competition basis after scoring two against
bottom club Levante, and Güiza joined Diego Milito on 15 league goals
after netting against Espanyol. His strike didn't count for much though as Luis
García (one of his rivals for a place in the Spanish squad) got two for
the locals, including a penalty.
Up at the top, Real Madrid
and Barcelona both faltered, the former losing at Deportivo and the latter only
drawing at Almería despite goals by Bojan and Eto'o. And Villarreal
closed up on them both (dare they hope?) with a strike from Nihat and a Rossi
penalty against Zaragoza. Elsewhere Sinama-Pongolle and Simao joined the group
on eight goals, the former scoring twice in a 4-2 win against Murcia, and the
latter netting against Levante. Earlier in the week there was only one match,
Getafe getting their second victory in seven days against Benfica in the UEFA
Cup, Albín scoring the only goal in the Alfonso Pérez stadium.
