Pichichis

A cracking start to the cup quarter finals, with Villa, Mata and Luis Fabiano all on target as Valencia beat Sevilla 3-2 in the first leg. Luis Fabiano is now joint top scorer in the competition with, er..... Poli Ejido's Jorge Molina! Pity the rest of the matches didn't live up to it though, only one goal (from Mallorca's Keita) in the other three ties.

On to the league where Barcelona started the second half of the season as they ended the first, with a big win over Numancia. Although Barkero scored his eighth of the season for the visitors, two from Messi and one each from Eto'o and Henry finished them off. The front trio alone have scored 45 between them in the league, more than any other team have managed to date!

Real Madrid for example have only scored 42, but a goal from Raúl against Deportivo gave them another win to keep them in second spot. The 31 year old team captain has now scored 306 for the club in all competitions, just one short of Alfredo Di Stefano's all time record. The weekend in all saw 28 goals in all, round about average this season, with Barral, Vicente and Rossi all adding to their tallies. (26.01.09)
