Pichichis

The cup quarter final second leg ties produced eleven goals, although the only one of our Pichichis to get his name on the scoresheet was Sevilla's Kanouté. The Andalusians qualified to meet Athletic Bilbao, with Barcelona going through to play Mallorca.

On to the weekend, where Leo Messi extended his lead at the top of our chart after coming on as substitute to score twice at Racing Santander. His second goal was the club's 5,000th in the league. And speaking of landmarks, Raúl's winner against Numancia equalled Alfredo Di Stéfano's all time club record of 307 goals in all competitions.

Eto'o stays in first place for the league Pichichi, although David Villa closed up on him after scoring twice against Almería. Negredo got two back for the visitors, but it was not enough to avoid a 3-2 defeat. Elsewhere Lafita scored a brace as Deportivo beat Villarreal 3-0, and Llorente was on target as Athletic came from behind to win 3-2 against Málaga. (02.02.09)
