Samuel Eto'o scored twice
for his country mid-week and came back to score two more to save the day for
Barcelona at Betis on Saturday. The Cameroonian striker has now netted an
average of goal a game for the first 23 matches of the season, taking him to
the top of the table in the race for Europe's "Golden Boot". Eto'o's nearest
rival for the league "Pichichi" is Valencia's David Villa, who also scored for
Spain in Wednesday's friendly against England, and then got his 18th of the
season against Málaga at the weekend.
Two goals on Sunday for
Raúl as Real Madrid made it eight wins in a row, pegging back two points
on the leaders. His tally of 309 in all competitions takes him past Alfredo Di
Stéfano's previous club record, and some say he could reach 400 before
he decides to pack it in! Sevilla's Kanouté also scored two late on
against Espanyol to take his side back up to third, and Diego Forlán
notched up another for Atlético to take him level with Raúl in
the table.
Elsewhere Negredo got the
winner for Almería in an epic match against Valladolid, and Zigic got
his fifth since joining Racing from Valencia mid-season, which combined with
the three he scored for the Ches takes him in to our chart for the first time
this season. (16.02.09) |
