Pichichis

La Liga is back, and the race for the new Pichichi is on with the slates wiped clean! Our first leader is Getafe's Soldado, who helped himself to a hat-trick on the opening weekend in Santander. The ex Real Madrid striker will be hoping to win back his place in the Spanish squad in time for next summer's World Cup.

Otherwise though our early Pichichis come from the five side's who have already played in other official pre-season competitions, with Miku and Rossi getting three each in the Europa League qualifiers, Messi notching up two in the Spanish Super Cup and his team-mate Pedro scoring in both the Spanish and European versions, and Agüero getting a couple to help Atlético in to the Champions League proper.

There will now be a short break for international matches before the league resumes in a couple of weeks' time. (03.09.09)
