Day two got under way after
a brief lay-off for international fixtures, with all four Champions League
sides in action on Saturday. Cristian Ronaldo was left on the bench for Real
Madrid at Espanyol as Pellegrini rested some of his key players, but he still
came on to score his side's third and his own second of the season. And Leo
Messi, Ronaldo's main rival for, well, every award going, also came on as
substitute to score. Ibrahimovic was the man who set him up, and he too got his
second of the season in a 0-2 win at Getafe. Sevilla also clocked up a good
result, beating Zaragoza 4-1 with two from Luis Fabiano, who had also scored a
brace for Brazil a few days earlier. Arizmendi replied for the
Maños.
The early leader in our
chart though is Villarreal's Rossi, who netted his first in the league but his
fourth in all competitions. David Villa is up there with the leaders however as
he scored two of Valencia's four at Valladolid, with Spanish international
team-mates Silva and Mata getting the others. Elsewhere Pandiani showed once
again that he is a man to be reckoned with, although his second goal of the
current campaign couldn't prevent a defeat at Tenerife. (17.09.09)
