The question was asked by
many people this week, "are Real Madrid already becoming "Cristiano Ronaldo"
dependent?". In the midweek Champions League game, Ronaldo scored two and won a
penalty which Kaká converted. But in doing so he picked up an injury
which kept him out of the game at Sevilla, and Madrid lost that one. Too early
to say? Ronaldo's closest rivals Messi, David Villa and Llorente all scored in
their respective European matches, but none added to their tally in a
low-scoring weekend. Llorente in particular was carried off in a neck-brace
after an accidental clash of heads with a Valladolid defender, and with Villa
also injured, Sevilla's Negredo is in line for an international call-up for
Spain's upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Pedro did help out Barcelona
though both in Europe and in the league, and he has already scored in four
competitions this season (Spanish supercup, European Supercup, league and
Champions League). If he nets in the Copa del Rey and the World Club
Championship it will be a record difficult to beat. And talking of records, at
16 years and 289 days old, Athletic Bilbao's Muniain became the youngest player
ever to score in the league, beating the previous best set by Villarreal's
Xisco Nadal. Elsewhere Sevilla's Luis Fabiano and Kanouté scored in the
Champions League win over Rangers, and Renato got one of the goals against Real
Madrid, and Zigic went one better, adding his name to Thursday's scoresheet in
the Europa League and Sunday's card against his old club Racing Santander.
