Most of the top boys were
rested as first division sides played their opening matches in the Spanish cup
mid-week. Sevilla though took their tie with Ciudad Lorqui seriously, Luis
Fabiano netting twice and Jesús Navas (tipped for a call-up for Spain
very soon) also on the scoresheet. Barcelona's Pedro is making history, and his
two goals against Cultural Leonesa means he has now scored in all five
competitions that his side have played. If he gets one in next month's World
Club Championship he will set a record which will be hard to beat. Elsewhere
Valladolid's Diego Costa got the winner against Mallorca to give his team hope
of a place in the last sixteen.
The rest didn't do them much
good though as none of our top ten were able to score at the weekend, although
Luis Fabiano moves up the chart after he notched up his third of the week at
Xerez. Rossi got his first since day two as Villarreal finally got their act
together against Tenerife, and Higuaín came to the rescue of Real Madrid
after their recent bad run, netting both goals against Getafe. Barcelona's
Keita continued his good form with his fourth in two weeks against Osasuna, and
Bilbao's Javi Martínez returns to our chart after he got the only goal
against Atlético Madrid. The lowest scoring weekend of the season to
date though, with only 21 goals in the ten matches. (02.11.09) |
