Better results for Spanish
sides in the Champions League midweek. On Tuesday Barcelona beat Inter Milan
2-0 with goals from Piqué and Pedro to put one foot in the next round,
and although Sevilla lost 1-0 to Unirea Urziceni, they had already made sure of
a place in the last sixteen a couple of weeks ago. The following day a goal
from Higuaín was enough to give Real Madrid a 1-0 victory over FC
Zurich, taking them to within a point of qualifying. And Atlético Madrid
drew 1-1 in Cyprus against APOEL, Simao's equaliser keeping his side on track
for the consolation prize of a place in the Europa League.
David Villa consolidated his
position at the top of the Pichichi table with a goal for Valencia against
Mallorca on Saturday, but Sevilla's Luis Fabiano went one better against
Málaga to draw level with the Spanish international striker on an
all-competition basis. Agüero is not far behind either after scoring two
for Atlético against Espanyol, Maxi and Forlán also on the
scoresheet in a 4-0 win. Elsewhere Soldado netted his second hat-trick of the
season, Diego Costa got two for Valladolid and Llorente and Javi
Martínez were amongst the goalscorers for Athletic. Undoubtedly though
the most important goal of the weekend was the one scored by Ibrahimovic in the
big derby between Barcelona and Real Madrid, the Swedish striker coming on as
substitute to win the match for his side. (30.11.09) |
