Leo Messi is almost sure of
taking this season's "European Golden Boot" after scoring his 32nd league goal
of the season. More importantly for Barcelona though, Messi's opener against
Sevilla put his side on track for a second league title in a row. Bojan and
Pedro added two more, and strikes by Kanouté and Luis Fabiano after that
were not enough to turn the scoreline around. Barça stay a point ahead
of Real Madrid, who rallied late on to beat Athletic Bilbao 5-1. Cristiano
Ronaldo started things off from the penalty spot, and Higuaín was
amongst the scorers as Madrid scored four in the last quarter of an hour.
The last Europa League spot
will be between Villarreal and Getafe after both won their respective matches.
Rossi opened the scoring for the former early on against local rivals Valencia
before Llorente netted his tenth of the season. And Soldado scored his second
in as many games after returning from injury to keep Michel's team ahead of
their rivals on goal difference. Their battle will be overshadowed this weekend
though by the fight to avoid relegation, with four teams level on points after
Nino's injury time equaliser for Tenerife against Almería, and Xerez
just three points below all of them after a 3-2 win over Zaragoza. (10.05.10)
