Another low scoring round of
games at the weekend, with a mere 15 goals in the first 9 matches. Only 119
goals in all have been scored in the first five days compared to 143 last
season, and it seems that teams have decided that the best way to combat the
likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid is to pack their defence and look to score
on the break-away. That certainly was the case with Levante, who picked up a
valuable point in a 0-0 draw with Madrid, and Barça had to rely on their
midfielders to score their goals at Bilbao this weekend. The best in fact was
saved for last, with five goals in the first half between Málaga and
Villarreal. Cazorla scored two and Rossi one in between to win it for the
visitors, with Eliseu and Rondón netting for the locals. Curiously
Málaga have the highest number of goals for and the highest number of
goals against in the league this season (11-11), and if nothing else the new
owners are providing entertainment for their fans. Elsewhere
Trézéguet scored two against a poor Sevilla to enter our chart
for the first time this week, and Kalu Uche (Almería), Cavenaghi
(Mallorca) and Soldado (Valencia) all joined the group with two goals, the
first two both scoring braces for their respective sides. (28.09.10)
