So it's confirmed then, the
Cup Final will be between Barcelona and Real Madrid! Barça were almost
sure of being there anyway after a 5-0 win over Almería in the first
leg, and a depleted side rubbed salt in the wound by adding three more in the
second leg, Adriano, Thiago and Afellay all scoring for the first time this
season. The result between Real Madrid and Sevilla were less sure though, and
it was not until late on that Özil and new signing Adebayor scored the
goals that took them through.
So to the weekend, and the
battle between Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo is running out of superlatives.
Messi started things off with his fourth hat-trick of the season against
Atlético Madrid to make it 40 goals to date this season, and Ronaldo
replied the following day with two as Real Madrid beat Real Sociedad 4-1. Both
have now scored 24 in the league, more than a goal a game. Elsewhere Spanish
internationals Llorente and Aduríz got their names on the scoresheet to
help Athletic and Valencia to respective wins, although only Llorente has been
picked by Del Bosque for the upcoming friendly with Colombia. (09.02.11)
