What is known over here as
"the FIFA virus" affected Barcelona this weekend, their run of 16 league wins
in a row coming to an end after a 1-1 draw at Sporting Gijón. David
Villa's goal against his old club at least saved their undefeated away record
though. As it was, Real Madrid had another day to recover from their
international commitments, and Marcelo's goal at Espanyol was enough to give
them a win which takes them to within five points of their rivals. A low
scoring weekend however, with five games decided by a single goal, one of which
from Caicedo took Levante out of the drop zone. Elsewhere a Luis Fabiano
penalty appeared to have given Sevilla a win at Málaga, but the locals
came back to level the scores at 2-2 thanks to an injury time strike from
Rondón. But maybe the most interesting fact of the weekend was that
neither Leo Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo scored! Statsticians have been up all
night checking the record books... (16.02.11) |
