Real Madrid's turn to play
their Champions League match this week, and with goals from Marcelo, Benzema
and Di María they finally laid the ghost of Olympique Lyon to join
Barcelona in the quarter finals. And the following day Villarreal finished off
the job against Bayer Leverkusen in their Europa League tie, Cazorla and Rossi
the scorers in a 2-1 win which takes them in to the last eight of the
competition. Relatively few goals at the weekend, although Benzema scored again
along with Özil as Real Madrid kept up the pressure on Barcelona with a
1-2 victory at city rivals Atlético Madrid. Agüero got one back
late on for the hosts, his 19th of the season. Elsewhere Marco Rubén
scored an important goal for Villarreal to take them up to third in the table,
and Rondón netted two early on for Málaga against Espanyol to
take them off the bottom of the table. (23.03.11) |
