Chalk one up for Real Madrid
and José Mourinho! Cristiano Ronaldo's extra time goal on Wednesday
night against Barcelona gave Madrid their first Copa del Rey title in 18 years.
If it wasn't for Messi, Ronaldo would be re-writing all the record books, but
the little magician scored his 50th of the season in a 2-0 victory over Osasuna
on Saturday, beating the all time Spanish club record Madrid's famous striker
Puskas. Villa also netted in that match, his first in eleven games, keeping up
the eight point gap over their arch-rivals. Madrid themselves didn't falter
though despite putting out a side packed with (very expensive!) reserves,
Higuaín scoring three, Kaká two and Benzema another in a 3-6
thrashing of third placed Valencia. Soldado did get his "golito" though to make
it eight in the last four matches, and Valencia stay six points clear of
Villarreal, who lost 3-2 at Sevilla, Negredo and Rossi both on the scoresheet
in that one. Sevilla are now sixth, level on points with Atlético,
Agüero scoring twice and Caicedo replying from the penalty spot in a 4-1
win over Levante. (26.04.11) |
