The epic saga continues,
with a third meeting in eleven days between eternal rivals Real Madrid and
Barcelona, this time in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals.
After a draw and a defeat though it was Barcelona's turn to come out on top, a
0-2 victory in the Bernabeu stadium taking Guardiola's side to the verge of a
second appearance in the final in three years. The goalscorer, who else but Leo
Messi? Both sides suffered at the weekend though, Madrid losing 2-3 to Zaragoza
on Saturday despite a strike from Benzema, and Barça failing to take
advantage after a 2-1 defeat at Real Sociedad later in the evening. And in the
last match of the day, Agüero scored his ninth in eight games as
Atlético kept up their challenge on the European spots with a 0-1 win at
Deportivo. The following day Rossi added another million or so to his valuation
with his 31st of the season against Getafe, helping his team consolidate fourth
spot, and Rondón netted again, sandwiched between two from Baptista, to
keep Málaga on track to stay up. The Monday night game was between two
sides battling for a place in the Europa League, Espanyol and Athletic Bilbao,
with Osvaldo scoring one and setting up another in a 2-1 victory which keeps
the Catalans in touch with their rivals. (04.05.11) |
