No less than 17 goals by the four La Liga sides in the Champions League this week, Real Madrid kicking things off by notching up a "set" against Dinamo Zagreb. Mou rested Ronaldo, but "Cat" Benzema got two and "Dog" Higuaín one, proving they can play together. The win ensured top spot of their group, and Barcelona also made sure of finishing first with an impressive 2-3 win at AC Milan, Messi converting a penalty and Xavi scoring the winner after the Italians had levelled the scores twice. Valencia clocked up their biggest ever CL win, beating Genk 7-0, with Soldado scoring a first half hat-trick, although they still need a point at Chelsea to reach the knockout stage. Villarreal are out of the competition though after losing 3-1 at Bayern Munich, the loss to injury of first choice strikers Rossi and Nilmar proving too big a blow in the end.

Ronaldo returned to the Madrid side for the derby game against Atlético on Saturday, and he converted two penalties in a 4-1 win over the old rivals. Higuaín also added to his tally, but not before Adrián had given the visiting fans hope with the opening goal. Madrid are now six points clear at the top though after Barça's surprise 1-0 defeat at Getafe, and the two Valencia based sides stay third and fourth, with Levante bouncing back from two defeats to beat Sporting 4-0. Koné got two of the goals to make it in to our charts for the first time, and Juanlu was awarded his sixth of the season by the referee, who decided that Valdo's touch (from an offside position?) came after the ball crossed the line. Elsewhere Agirretxe was on target as Real Sociedad beat Betis 2-3 to climb out of the drop zone, although the goal of the match was undoubtedly the last minute winner by Iñigo Martínez, the second goal he has scored from inside his own half this season.
