A bit of a mixed week for matches, with a lot of loose ends to tie up. Only one of the four Champions League games involving Spanish sides had anything at stake, with Valencia going down 3-0 at Chelsea on Tuesday night to finish a disappointing third in their group. Barcelona had already ensured their place in the knock-out stage as group champions, and Guardiola put out a line up which included six B team players. Even so though they beat BATE Borisov, with Pedro getting two, including a penalty. Mourinho chose to give a run out to his lesser used squad players at Ajax the following day, Callejón and Higuaín both scoring in a 0-3 victory which gave the Merengues maximum points. Villarreal failed again though, a 0-2 defeat at home to Napoli leaving them without a point in "the group of death", the worst performance ever by a Spanish side in the competition.

Wednesday evening also saw the last 30 minutes of the suspended match between Granada and Mallorca, Hemed scoring his fifth penalty of the season to save a 2-2 draw in the end. And on Thursday the two Europa League sides played their fourth round, first leg cup matches, Adrián's goal not enough to prevent a 2-1 defeat at second division B side Albacete. Athletic Bilbao did manage a narrow 0-1 win at Oviedo though, De Marcos the scorer of the only goal against the Asturians.

So to the weekend, and of course the main interest was focused on the big game in the Bernabeu on Saturday evening. Assuming you were one of the 500 million or so who watched the match you already know how it went, but just for the record Benzema scored within 23 seconds for Madrid, but Alexis, Xavi and Fàbregas turned it around for visitors Barcelona. Earlier in the day Betis clocked up their first win in eleven games, beating Valencia 2-1 thanks to two injury time goals from Rubén Castro, and on Sunday there were goals from Barral and Michu as Sporting won 1-3 at Rayo, and for Falcao as Atlético fell to a 4-2 defeat at Espanyol.
