The second legs of the cup quarter finals this week, and all eyes were at the Nou Camp for the nth "clásico" of the season between Barcelona and Real Madrid. Barça edged it thanks to their first leg win, but the 2-2 on the night was close in the end. Strikes from Pedro and Alves shortly before the break appeared to have wrapped things up, but goals by Ronaldo and Benzema after the restart took it to the wire. The competition's highest scorer though is Pablo Infante of Mirandés, the day-time bank manager scoring his seventh to date in an amazing last-minute 2-1 win over Espanyol. The second division B side will meet Athletic Bilbao in the semi-finals after they beat Mallorca 0-1, and Barça will play Valencia, who completed the rout of city rivals Levante with a 0-3 victory to add to the 4-1 first leg result.

Madrid's disappointment was short lived though, a 3-1 win over Zaragoza at the weekend, coupled with a tired Barcelona's 0-0 draw at Villarreal, taking them seven points clear of Guardiola's side at the top of the table. Kaká, Ronaldo and Özil were scorers after Lafita had started things off for the visitors. Athletic Bilbao are not showing signs of fatigue despite their good cup run, Llorente netting all three goals in a 2-3 win at Rayo Vallecano, with Michu one of the scorers for the locals. Llorente's recent return to form must be a relief for Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque, who is running out of strikers for the friendly game against Venezuela in a month's time. Elsewhere Levante's dream start to the season is starting to falter, Rubén Suárez's penalty not enough to prevent a 1-2 defeat against Getafe. (31.01.12)
