With one match still to go in the group stage of this season's European competitions, the fate of all seven La Liga teams has already been decided. The four Champions League sides are already through to the knock-out stage, with Barcelona and Málaga also ensuring top spot in their respective groups. Barça beat Spartak Moscow 0-3 on Tuesday evening, with Messi setting up Dani Alves for the opener and then scoring twice himself, and later that night Valencia drew 1-1 with Bayern Munich, Feghouli the scorer for the Ches. On Wednesday Málaga went two up at Zenit with early strikes from Buonanotte and Seba Fernández before the Russians came back to level it at 2-2, and Real Madrid also drew 1-1 at Manchester City, Benzema netting for Mourinho's side early on. Levante and Atlético Madrid also made sure of progressing to the next stage of the Europa League on Thursday, Angel, Diop and Iborra scoring for the Valencia based team in a 1-3 win at Helsingborg, and Raúl García on target as Atlético beat Hapoel Tel-Aviv 1-0. Athletic Bilbao are out though despite the postponement of their match at Hapoel Kiryat, the result in the other group game meaning that neither the Basques nor the Israelis can finish in the top two spots.

Messi carried on his fight to catch Gert Müller's all-time record of 85 for a calendar year, and after two more in a 0-4 win at Levante (Iniesta and Fàbregas were the other scorers), he is now only three behind. As a minor curiosity, every time that Messi has scored in the league this season he has gone on to score at least two! Ronaldo is dropping behind his rival after failing to score for the fourth week in a row, but Falcao did convert a penalty as Atlético beat Sevilla 4-0 to stay within three points of the leaders. Málaga also put four past Valencia in an otherwise low scoring weekend, Saviola and Isco both on the scoresheet, and promising youngster Leo Baptistao got one of Rayo's two and set up the other for Delibasic in a 2-0 victory over Mallorca. Leo, who played his early football alongside Neymar in Brazil, is one of La Liga's rising stars this season, as is Celta's Iago Aspas, who got the winner for his side at Zaragoza on Monday night.
