He's done it! Leo Messi has broken many records in his career, but this weekend he set one which may never be beaten, scoring against all 19 first division sides in a row! His goal against Celta on Saturday completed the set, and although last year Ronaldo became the first player in La Liga to score against every team in one season, Messi has topped his arch-rival once again! Unfortunately though the run looks like ending this week as he picked up an injury in last night's Champions League game (more on that next week), but the record of scoring in 19 consecutive league games is almost double the previous best of ten, set by the old Ronaldo when he was at Barcelona over a decade ago.

Despite Messi's strike, Barça were held to a 2-2 draw in the Balaidos stadium, although they maintain their advantage over the rest as the three teams below them also drew. Ronaldo got Real Madrid's only goal in a 1-1 draw at Zaragoza to take his tally for the season to 44, which in other ages would have outstripped anyone, and Falcao scored for Atlético just a minute after Jonas had put Valencia ahead. And Real Sociedad's 2-2 draw at Espanyol keeps them in fourth place, although Málaga are back to within a point of them after overcoming an early Piti penalty to win 1-3 at Rayo Vallecano. Further down the table two goals from Kike Sola and one from Aduríz helped Osasuna and Athletic Bilbao move away from the danger zone, and Riki was one of the scorers as Deportivo won 2-3 at Mallorca to keep alive their hopes of survival.

All of that came after a two week international lay-off in which Spain moved to the top of their World Cup qualifying group. Pedro may not be clocking up many goals for Barcelona this year, but he is setting new records for his country, his tenth of the current campaign in the match against France making him the World's top scorer in international games this season, two ahead of a player who may be his team-mate next year, Brazil's Neymar.
