It's all over! Messi's record breaking run of scoring in 19 consecutive league games has come to the end the only way it could, through injury!. The little man limped off at half time in Tuesday's Champions League quarter final at Paris Saint Germain, but not before he got a vital away goal, and although the French side levelled it at 2-2 in the last minute after Xavi had converted a second half penalty, the Catalans are still favourites to go through. Real Madrid are also on the verge of a place in the semi-finals after they beat Galatasaray 3-0, Ronaldo starting things off with his ninth in the competition this season, and Benzema and Higuaín adding two more either side of half time, and Málaga are still in with a shout as well after they drew 0-0 at home to Borussia Dortmund.

Messi's replacement against Mallorca on Saturday was Cesc Fàbregas, and he helped himself to a hat-trick as well as setting up two more for Alexis in a comfortable 5-0 win. Amazingly, it was the first time that any Barça player other than Messi had scored three or more goals in a match for more than three years (Keita back in week 8 of the 2009-10 season), and in that time Messi has scored fifteen hat-tricks, four "pokers" (4 goals) and one "manita" (5 goals)!

It was a high scoring weekend overall though, with no less than 28 goals in the first five games between Friday and Saturday, and another ten in the last five matches. Betis started things off with a 1-5 victory at Granada on Friday, Rubén Castro netting twice, and Real Sociedad began Saturday with a 4-2 win over Málaga, Carlos Vela and Griezmann amongst the scorers for the locals and Santa Cruz getting a late consolation for the visitors (Vela's goal was his club's 3,000th in the first division).

Later in the day Higuaín and Ronaldo were on target again as Real Madrid eventually ran out 5-1 winners over Levante, but Postiga's early penalty was not enough to save Zaragoza from a 3-2 defeat at Deportivo. On Sunday Piti scored his thirteenth of the season as Rayo beat Celta 0-2, and Jonas got a last minute winner for Valencia after Oscar appeared to have saved a point for visitors Valladolid. And on Monday Negredo rounded off week 30 with both goals as Sevilla beat Athletic Bilbao 2-1 to close in on the European spots. Things are really hotting up! (09.04.13)
