The fat lady has sung her heart out, and the show is over! An exciting last day produced no less than 38 goals, and that without our top three, Messi, Ronaldo and Falcao, who were all missing from their respective teams for various reasons! The battle though was elsewhere, with the fight between Negredo and Soldado to finish as the highest scoring Spanish player a side-show in the push for the fourth Champions League spot. Negredo came out winner of that one with all four goals in Sevilla's 4-3 win over Valencia, Soldado's two not enough to prevent a defeat which left the Ches out of the top four, nor to stop Negredo from taking this season's "Zarra" award. Soldado did have a consolation prize though as he has ousted Negredo for the last striker's spot in Del Bosque's squad for the Confederations Cup, and the two forwards are likely to be swamped with offers this summer to move to different climes.

The last place in the Champions League goes to Real Sociedad however, Griezmann's goal the difference as the Basque side beat Deportivo 0-1. Depor go down as a result after regional rivals Celta beat Espanyol 1-0 to move above them in the table, and they will be joined in the second division next season by Mallorca and Zaragoza. Neither had much hope of survival to be honest, but the Maños finished in last spot after they lost 1-3 to Atlético Madrid, Postiga's late equaliser giving them a flutter of a chance before two from Diego Costa sank them in the end.

Betis confirmed that they will be playing in the Europa League next Autumn, a strike from Jorge Molina giving them a 1-1 draw at Levante. It was not enough though to take them above sixth placed Málaga despite a 4-1 defeat at Barcelona for Pellegrini's side, Villa and Fàbregas amongst the scorers as Barça matched Real Madrid's best ever haul of 100 points in a season.

Málaga still have to win their appeal against their European ban to confirm their place in the E-League, and if they fail then Rayo Vallecano are next in line after they drew 2-2 with Athletic Bilbao, Piti getting one for the locals and Susaeta one for the visitors. Rayo too have been banned though, and if they can't make it then Sevilla are waiting in the wings. Real Madrid of course qualified for the Champions League some time ago, and Higuaín and Benzema said goodbye to Mourinho with a goal apiece in a 4-2 victory against the already safe Osasuna.
