The first weekend of the season ended with an impressive 35 goals in the ten matches, Leo Messi once again helping himself to a brace to get an early start on arch-rival Cristiano Ronaldo. Pedro scored two as well as Barcelona began their new era under Tata Martino with a crushing 7-0 win over Levante. Ronaldo didn't score for Real Madrid, but Benzema and Isco did as they too got off to a 3 pointer, and elsewhere Diego Costa (Atlético), Alberto Bueno (Rayo) and Rodri (Almería) also scored twice for their respective sides.

Usually at this stage in the season several clubs have kicked off in other competitions, but with the early start this summer only Sevilla have taken part in the qualifying round of the Europa League, Rusescu and Coke getting two each in an massive 9-1 aggregate win over Mladost Podgorica. Perotti also scored a penalty in the first leg, and after getting another goal at the weekend he too enters in to our first Pichichi table. (21.08.13)
