The three Spanish sides involved in European play-offs all completed the job midweek, and La Liga will have a full contingent at the group stages once again. Real Sociedad won through a tricky Champions League qualifier against Olympique Lyon, Carlos Vela getting both goals as they beat the French side 4-0 on aggregate. And on Thursday Sevilla and Betis both clocked up big scores in their Europa League qualifiers, the former getting five at Slask Wroclaw, with Bacca netting twice and Rakitic, Jairo and Perotti getting the rest, and their city neighbours hitting six against Jablonec, with Rubén Castro and Jorge Molina amongst the scorers. Sevilla in particular have now scored 18 goals in their four matches, and they currently have no less than seven players in our chart as a result.

No score in a dour Super Cup second leg between Barcelona and Atlético Madrid, the Catalans taking the trophy thanks to Neymar's away goal in the first leg. Both teams were back in the goals at the weekend though, Messi getting his first hat-trick of the season in Barça's 2-3 win at Valencia (Postiga scoring both for the hosts in reply), and Villa got the opener for Atlético as they beat Real Sociedad 1-2. Messi's arch-rival Cristiano Ronaldo headed his first of the season in Real Madrid's 3-1 victory over Athletic Bilbao, although he was overshadowed by a brace from new signing Isco, and Gameiro also scored two as Sevilla drew 2-2 against neighbours Málaga. And finally Soriano scored his second of the season as new boys Almería and Elche cancelled each other out in another 2-2 draw. (04.09.13)
