Some 29 goals in the midweek round of league fixtures, with Messi getting his tenth of the season in Barcelona's 4-1 win over Real Sociedad. Cristiano Ronaldo is only one behind him though after scoring both goals (including a controversial last minute penalty) in Real Madrid's 1-2 victory at Elche, and Diego Costa also helped himself to a brace as Atlético beat Osasuna 2-1.The Brazilian born striker has scored all seven of his goals in the league, the same number as Messi, and there are serious rumours that he may be called up for Spain if Brazil coach Scolari doesn't include him in his plans.

Elsewhere Jonas also got a last minute winner as Valencia won 0-1 at Granada, and Rakitic and Bacca shared the goals as Sevilla beat Rayo Vallecano 4-1 to move above their opponents off the bottom of the table. Three games on Thursday, with Athletic Bilbao moving up to fifth after coming from behind to beat Betis 2-1, Molina opening the scoring for the visitors but De Marcos and San José replying late on for the Basque side.
