The intense programme of league games over the last eleven days appears to have taken its toll, with a season low 17 goals scored in the week 7 round of fixtures. Messi did manage to get on the scoresheet at Almería before he limped off with a hamstring injury midway through the first half, enough though to put Barcelona on the way to a record seventh win in a row since the start of the season. They will have to share that honour however with Atlético Madrid, who clocked up their first league win against city rivals Real Madrid since the turn of the century. Once again the on-form Diego Costa did the damage in a 0-1 win in the Bernabeu, taking him level with Messi for the Liga Pichichi title with eight goals to date. Elsewhere Jonas got his fourth goal in a week to give Valencia their third win in that time, El-Arabi scored Granada's first league goals of the season at home (two coming along at once after the long wait), and Javi Guerra got one of Valladolid's two in a 2-2 draw against Málaga.
