Leo Messi is back! After a two month injury lay-off, the little man came on for the last half an hour of the cup tie against Getafe, and true to form he produced two cracking goals as Barcelona went on to win 4-0. Before that Cesc Fàbregas had given his team a two goal lead, the second from the penalty spot, but elsewhere in the cup goals were sadly lacking, with only Raúl García and Benzema adding to their tallies amongst our leading scorers.

The weekend league games started with a bang though, no less than eleven goals in two games, Granada netting four against Valladolid on Friday, and Athletic Bilbao hammering Almería 6-1 on Saturday afternoon. The next seven matches (including the big clash between Atlético and Barcelona) only produced the same number of goals however, Betis striker Molina the only “Pichichi” to score (and even his side lost). But on Monday the goals were back, Giovani and Uche helping themselves to two each as Villarreal beat Real Sociedad 5-1. Quite a topsy-turvey round of games to finish off the first half of the season! (15.01.14)
