Anyone still think Cristiano Ronaldo is off-form?!? The Real Madrid striker returned from the international break with a very loud bang, helping himself to five goals as his team thrashed Granada 9-1 on Sunday lunch-time! It was his highest tally in a single match, and takes him on to 300 goals with his club, just seven short of Di Stéfano and 23 behind all-time top scorer Raúl. Bale started things off and Benzema scored two more in Madrid’s best result for 47 years, although it didn’t help them to close the gap on leaders Barcelona, Mathieu scoring for the second week in a row as Luis Enrique’s side beat Celta 0-1. Ronaldo did though overtake Messi once again in the race for the “Pichichi”.

Atlético Madrid meanwhile are back up to third after a 0-2 victory at bottom club Córdoba, Griezmann getting the opener there now that we are in April (it seems he always has a drought in March?), and Sevilla close the gap on fourth placed Valencia with a 2-0 win over Athletic, Bacca once more on target. Elsewhere Levante’s Barral became the first player ever to score two hat-tricks in a season for the Valencia based club, his goals against Almería taking them out of the relegation zone. And there were goals again for Rayo’s Alberto Bueno and Espanyol’s Sergio García, the former beating Eibar 1-2 and the later drawing 1-1 with Elche. It’s all go at the moment though, with a mid-week round of league matches coming up in the next three days, and another round at the weekend. (07.04.15)
