The battle between the “Immortals” goes on, Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo both scoring in the mid-week round of games as they slug it out for the umpteenth time for the Pichichi title. Messi was first up, and he opened the scoring on Wednesday night as Barcelona beat Almería 4-0, Luis Suárez helping himself to two more as well in that match. Ronaldo was not to be daunted though, and he followed up his “manita” at the weekend by scoring the first and assisting James for the second in a 0-2 win at Rayo Vallecano.

Atlético meanwhile consolidated third spot with a 2-0 victory against Real Sociedad, Griezmann getting the second goal, and Sevilla close to within a point of fourth placed Valencia after a 1-2 win at Levante, Gameiro starting things off for the Andalusians. Valencia themselves could only draw 1-1 at Athletic Bilbao thanks to a controversial last minute strike by Aduríz, and sixth placed Villarreal drop further away from the top five after a 0-3 defeat against Espanyol, Caicedo netting a brace for the visitors.
