What a week for “Chicharito” Hernández! The Mexican striker had been a bit of a forgotten man at Real Madrid since his loan move from Manchester United, but on Tuesday night he scored the only goal in a tense Champions League quarter final against city rivals Atlético, and on Sunday he netted two more in a 2-4 win at Celta which kept his team in touch with leaders Barcelona! How things can change in a week, and now there is talk of him staying on! The Catalans themselves will join Ancelotti’s side in the semi-finals after they beat Paris Saint Germain 2-0 on Wednesday, Neymar getting both goals, and Sevilla will once again be Spain’s representative in the Europa League semis after they drew 2-2 at Zenit on Thursday. It was a close thing in the end though despite Bacca’s early opener from the penalty spot, and only a late strike by super-sub Gameiro prevented the Russian side from taking the tie into extra time.

James was also on target for Madrid in that Sunday game at Celta after Nolito had temporarily given the Galicians the lead, but they stay two points behind Barça, Neymar and Messi scoring early on in a 0-2 win at city rivals Espanyol. Meanwhiler Griezmann is single-handedly ensuring third spot for Atlético, the French striker helping himself to another brace against Elche which takes his tally to eight in the last five league games. Raúl García got one between as well in a 3-0 victory which keeps Simeone’s side four points clear of Valencia, themselves 4-0 victors over Granada on Monday evening, Dani Parejo amongst the scorers there from the penalty spot.
