Messi is likely to be out for some time yet, but in his absence Neymar stepped up to the plate with no less than four goals (albeit including two penalties) in a 5-2 victory over Rayo Vallecano on Saturday evening. The Brazilian striker also set up Luis Suárez for the fifth, but not before Javi Guerra opened the scoring for the visitors. The big two are now neck-and-neck at the top after Real Madrid beat Levante 3-0 earlier in the day, Ronaldo celebrating his record fourth Golden Boot with the second goal, thereby definitively putting him ahead of Raúl as the club’s all-time top scorer. Barça and Madrid are not alone though, Celta joining them on points after a 1-2 win at last week’s leaders Villarreal in the Sunday mid-day kick-off, Orellana starting things off and Nolito getting the winner late on.

Despite all that Aduríz stays at the top of our chart after he scored again at Deportivo, although his joy was tempered as the Galicians came back with late goals from Lucas Pérez and Arribas to save a point. Atlético Madrid meanwhile move up to fourth, Griezmann getting the opener against his old club Real Sociedad as Simeone’s side came away from Anoeta with a 0-2 win. Valencia picked up a much needed 3-0 victory over Málaga, Dani Parejo rounding things off from the penalty spot, but Sevilla faltered again, the Andalusians drawing 1-1 at Eiber, Gameiro getting the equalizer after Borja Bastón scored his fifth in four games. Elsewhere Caicedo was on target as a Marco Asensio inspired Espanyol beat Betis 1-3, and Getafe’s Scepovic came on as substitute to score two late goals as his side won 4-0 against relegation rivals Las Palmas.
