Back from the two week international break, and it was straight in to the latest “clásico” between Barcelona and Real Madrid! This time though the “BBC” came out on top of the “MSN”, Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo scoring (and Bale having a good goal ruled out!), and only Piqué replying for the hosts in a 1-2 victory which at least saved some pride for Zidane’s team. Ronaldo is now three goals clear of Luis Suárez for the league “Pichichi”, albeit that Suárez has scored more in all club competitions. Second placed Atlético Madrid took advantage to close the gap on the leaders to six points, Griezmann netting twice in a 5-1 win over Betis, Rubén Castro getting the consolation goal for the visitors. Villarreal meanwhile strengthened their fourth position with a 1-2 win at Eibar, whilst the three teams below them all faltered. Celta were held to a 1-1 draw by neighbours Deportivo, Nolito’s strike at least saving a point there, Athletic too drew 1-1 at home to Granada, and Sevilla were beaten 1-2 by Real Sociedad, Gameiro’s penalty not enough to prevent a first home defeat of the season. The weekend kicked off on Friday night with the relegation battle between Rayo Vallecano and Getafe, strikes from the returning Javi Guerra and from Miku giving the locals three massive points against their city rivals.
